Dried Zucchini Chips

This is Day 8 of my Daniel Fast.

I made these to snack on for my second week.  These are SOOOOOO good, I can't stop eating them !!!!  I'm going to end up eating the whole batch in one sitting !!!!  My husband even likes these !!!!

Ingredients:
zucchini, sliced (I had 3 small zucchini sliced into 1/4" thick slices)
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper

Directions:
Mix the water and lemon juice in a bowl.  Place the zucchini slices in the bowl and let soak for 3-5 minutes.

Put the sliced zucchini on the mesh sheets on dehydrator trays, in a single layer and so the slices do not overlap.  Sprinkle the slices with the cumin, salt and pepper.

If your dehydrator has a temperature control, set it to 135 degrees.   The average drying time is 5-10 hours.  The drying time is affected by the thickness of the slices, the humidity, the moisture content, how much is being dried.  So you will need to check every once in a while and see how they are drying.

  I have a Nesco-American Harvest Gardenmaster Dehydrator
which I ABSOLUTELY LOVE.

Part of the Daniel Fast is praising God.....SO......
Praise God for he is:
holy, happy, healer, helpful, hope, High-Priest

They are more desirable than the finest gold; they are sweeter than the purest honey.

    1. Hey Sandy... you REALLY should just use it !!!!!! You really can't ruin anything....if something gets too dried out, you can leave it uncovered so that it absorbs some moisture from the air or you can put it in the microwave with a glass of water so it absorbs some moisture from the water (only do a few secs at a time). If you love zucchini, I think you would LOVE these.... they are such tasty treats !!!!! Time to put that dehydrator to use !!!!!!!! THANKS for your comments.... I REALLY REALLY appreciate your taking the time to comment. It means a LOT to me !!!!

    3. YEAH !!!!!!!!! I am SOOOOOO glad to hear you used the dehydrator and loved it !!!!! I'm sure you will be hooked now. Yes, it is nice having several trays !!!! It is SOOOO easy.... I bet you wonder how come you never used it before now that you see how easy it is !!!!! I hope you enjoyed all your treats !!! It doesn't sound like it uses much electricity. I found this on the web: "A common misconception is that it is expensive, electricity wise, to operate a food dehydrator. This is not true, even though dehydrators use electricity to operate their heating system and fans for longer periods of time, sometimes up to twelve and eighteen hours." Another article: "No. Unless you are running multiple ones 24/7.

Look at the nameplate (sticker on the back of the device) and see how many watts the appliance is.

For instance, if it says it is 350W, you can divide that by 1000 to get kW (kilowatts).
So, 350W would equal 0.35 kW.

Now you can multiply this figure by the number of hours you will be rrunning the machine to figure out how many kWh (kilowatt/hours) you will be using. This is the same figure you get charged for electricity by the utility company. Maybe look at an electric bill to see how much you pay per kWh and multiply that by the kWh you came up with to run your machine.

Example: A 350W dehydrator running for 6 hours with a cost of $0.09/kWh for electricity would work out like this:

      0.35kW * 6h = 2.1kWh
      2.1kWh * $0.09/kwh = $0.189

Therefore, in this example it would cost 19 cents to run the 350 watt machine for 6 hours @ 9 cents per kilowatt/hour."
